With only one game under his belt, it is early in Shemar James' 2026 campaign to make sweeping assessments, but his lone outing yielded a detrimental 57.3 overall grade across 46 snaps against Baltimore. His debut was primarily dragged down by significant coverage lapses, where he posted a poor 48.9 mark over eight snaps. James was repeatedly susceptible to run fakes, biting hard on play-action boots to surrender completions of 14 and 21 yards. His run defense showed better flashes with a neutral 62.1 grade, highlighted by diagnosing a screen and stopping Derrick Henry for no gain, despite also getting washed out on a 29-yard power run and conceding a goal-line score. Because he has only logged a single appearance, week-to-week trends have yet to develop.
